Q: Do I need a formal qualification to hire an apprentice or trainee?
A: Usually an apprentice or trainee must receive supervision and training from a suitably qualified person, however this is not necessary in some vocations, where substantial experience in the field is adequate.
Q: Do I need to hire an apprentice or trainee for a set period of time?
A: A host employer can hire a person for any period that suits their specific workplace. Part time apprenticeships and traineeships are available.
Q: If The Apprenticeship Factory is the legal employer, can the employee be taken away from me?
A: An apprentice or trainee will not be taken away or relocated unless you request it, or it is necessary for the apprentice or trainee to develop the required skills to complete their qualifications.
Q: What are my occupational health and safety requirements?
A: You must provide a safe workplace with adequate instruction and training for the job required. We educate all apprentices and trainees on OH&S issues and continually monitor the workplace throughout training.
Q: Does it cost extra to use The Apprenticeship Factory than employing directly myself?
A: We do charge a small service fee, however as we are a not-for-profit organisation, we pass on government employment incentives to you.
Q: Am I able to choose the apprentice or trainee who works for me?
A: We provide a free recruitment service, which includes short listing applicants, however the final interviews and decision on who to employ is up to you.
Q: Can I hire a student who is still studying as an apprentice or trainee?
A: Yes, school based apprenticeships are available in a variety of apprenticeships and traineeships. Students are generally hired a minimum of 1 day per week.
Q: What happens if I no longer need my apprentice or trainee?
A: The Apprenticeship Factory is the legal employer responsible for ongoing employment. As long as a minimum two weeks notice is given, we will endeavour to arrange alternative placements for the apprentice or trainee.
Q: What area does The Apprenticeship Factory cover?
A: Based in Shepparton with regional offices in Wangaratta and Seymour we provide quality services to employers in Victoria and Southern NSW.
